Through a combination of lecture and interactive sessions you will learn from a faculty of four digital experts about the long-term needs of the digital assets that exist in your institution, and how to plan for their preservation. The workshop provides examples from model digital preservation plans and includes case studies from established digital preservation programs. Faculty members work directly with attendees to assist in developing their plans.
This course is best suited for participants with existing digital collections and prior digitization experience. Participation by multiple employees from the same institution is encouraged.
The Stewardship of Digital Assets workshop has been offered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Morrow, Georgia, and Dallas, Texas. Thanks go to PALINET, SOLINET, and AMIGOS Library Services for co-sponsoring the program in their regions.

Workshop Faculty
Liz Bishoff Liz Bishoff is the Director of Digital and Preservation Services for BCR in Aurora, Colorado. Previously she was Special Assistant to the Dean of Libraries and Head of the Office of Sponsored Programs, University of Colorado, Boulder; Vice President for Digital Collection Services at OCLC; and former Executive Director of the Colorado Digitization Program. Liz has worked with libraries and museums in several states including Alabama, Kansas, South and North Carolina, Missouri, Minnesota, New Mexico, New York, and Tennessee on various aspects of their collaborative digitization initiatives. Liz led the development of collaborative best practices in metadata, including the Western States Metadata Dublin Core Best Practices. |
| Tom Clareson Thomas F.R. Clareson joined PALINET as Program Director for New Initiatives in October 2005. Leading PALINET's digital collections creation and management services, preservation services, and consulting activities, he is responsible for establishing new services and funding sources, grant writing, and outreach to the museum and historical society communities. With over 15 years’ experience in preservation and digitization services, Tom was previously Global Product Manager at OCLC Online Computer Library Center, Inc.; he also served in various capacities at Amigos Library Services, Inc. Currently a representative from the Society of American Archivists to the Joint Committee on Archives, Libraries, and Museums, he also serves on the Board of Trustees of Heritage Preservation. |
Robin L. Dale From 2005 to early 2007, Robin was also the Project Director of the Center for Research Libraries Auditing and Certification of Digital Archives project, a Mellon-funded activity to develop processes to audit and certify digital archives and repositories. She co-chaired the RLG National Archives and Records Administration Digital Repository Certification task force, which produced the recently released Trusted Repositories, Audit and Certification: A Checklist (TRAC). For the last ten years, her work has focused on digital preservation, preservation metadata, data curation, and digitization. |
Tyler O. Walters Tyler O. Walters is the Associate Director, Technology and Resource Services, Georgia Institute of Technology Library and Information Center. Tyler is also a co-Principal Investigator with the MetaArchive Cooperative, one of the eight original digital preservation partnerships with the National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program (www.metaarchive.org) of the Library of Congress. Currently, his committee appointments include serving on the National Science Foundation's National Science Digital Library Sustainability Committee and chairing the Host Committee for the 4th International Conference on Open Repositories in Atlanta, Georgia, May 18-21, 2009. Tyler was also a member of the 2006 ARL/NSF workgroup that produced the report "To Stand the Test of Time: Long-term Stewardship of Data Sets in Science and Engineering" (www.arl.org/bm~doc/digdatarpt.pdf). He is a frequent conference speaker and author and is a past recipient of the Society of American Archivists' Ernst Posner Award for best article in the American Archivist (1998). |
